Kineo’s Learning Insights: NEW L&D Industry Report

It was great to see the latest Kineo L&D report land in my inbox a few weeks back; “Learning Insights 2017: Progress with purpose”.

Imagine my excitement upon opening page 1 to see the first big quote –

“WE’RE LOOKING TO CLOSE THE GAP BETWEEN LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE – BETWEEN KNOWING AND DOING. IT’S ABOUT THE TOOLS THAT’LL HELP PEOPLE DO REAL WORK REALLY WELL”

Bingo! It’s fantastic to see recognition of the knowing / doing gap and its importance in creating effective learning. Great content is all well and good but when it’s not being optimised or utilised back in the workplace we as L&D professionals have a problem.

Kineo compile their report based on interviews with L&D professionals in a variety of industries and locations.

They note that while the “digital blizzard” is still blowing – Learning & Development are finding a way to navigate through it. 53% have started using new technologies to deliver learning in the past year.

They identified six themes from their research and detail what all of these mean for us and how we can use this knowledge in learning.

Check out the full report HERE for insights into all of the above plus the skills you need to work in Learning & Development in 2017. My favourite skill suggestions were “be a big picture strategist” – look holistically at your company’s talent development rather than just individual training interventions, and to “be a lifelong learner” – always! Towards Maturity’s Benchmark Report found that 94% of the ‘Top Deck’ L&D Leaders are seeking out opportunities to gain new skills at work.

Ending on a final reflective note of “what’s next for us in L&D” the report encourages all of us in Learning & Development to keep doing what we’re doing – keep learning, keep experimenting and keep implementing. Understand how trends from the outside world can compliment your learning strategy, and keep aligned with your business objectives.

Well worth a read.
