The Top 10 Blogs in Learning & Development To Follow

The number of thought leaders and organisations providing top notch content on learning & development, talent management and HR is astonishing and continues to grow.

Whilst there are so many great blogs out there, I wanted to share my top 10 blogs in Learning & Development that I would recommend anyone in the industry to follow.

1. Elliott Masie  – Learning Trends @emasie

Elliott is provocative, engaging and entertaining and really stretches our thinking. He runs an annual Learning conference in the US, heads up the Masie Centre, sends out his Learning TRENDS Internet newsletter (read by over 57,000 business executives worldwide) AND finds the time to produce and invest in a number of award winning Broadway Musicals! To top it all off, he just landed Michelle Obama as the keynote speaker for Learning 2017. Kudos! Worth following.

2. Training Industry @TrainingIndustr

Training Industry showcases the latest news within the training industry and keeps me up to date on what’s trending in training. Plus with guest features I love that you can get a real variety of topics with great depth. And not that I want to shamelessly plug – but they do feature yours truly as a blogger every now and again, including this article last week – Measuring the Effectiveness of Your Training. Thanks Training Industry 🙂

3. Donald H Taylor @DonaldHTaylor

We love Don! A passionate thought leader in the learning world – Don chairs the Learning & Performance Institute, and the Learning Technologies Conference in the UK. I was lucky enough to attend LTUK this year in London, and it was a great event. Don’s blog is insightful and invites real collaboration from his community.

4. Harold Jarche @hjarche ‏

Harold provides pragmatic, forward thinking guidance in his blog. Described as “a keen subversive of the last century’s management and education models”, Harold’s blog is one of the top 50 most socially shared blogs in Learning & Development worldwide. I have great respect for his tendency to challenge the way we think in learning.

5. Towards Maturity @TowardsMaturity ‏

Laura Overton and the team at Towards Maturity are my go-to resource for the latest facts and figures in the Learning & Development field. They have some great resources and every year I find myself glued to their latest Benchmark report. Over 5,000 L&D leaders and 35,000 learners from over 55 countries have participated in Towards Maturity’s independent benchmark research, providing the world’s largest evidence base on what works in learning.

6. Jane Hart @C4LPT ‏

Jane is the founder of the Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies, one of the world’s most visited learning websites. She writes a popular blog about modernising workplace learning, and her insights into social learning and technology in the modern workplace come highly recommended.

7. Josh Bersin @Josh_Bersin ‏

I’m sure there aren’t many who haven’t heard of Bersin by Deloitte! Evidently a piece of Bersin by Deloitte research is downloaded on average approximately every minute during the business day! I’m an avid follower of the latest findings from the forward thinking Josh Bersin. I thought his most recent piece on The Disruption of Digital Learning was great.

8. Training Journal @TrainingJournal ‏@LightbulbJo ‏

I met the enthusiastic editor of Training Journal, Jo Cook at the Learning Technologies conference in London recently. She is a delight, as is the Training Journal content! With an array of different features, webinars, blogs, and their monthly magazine, TJ is the one stop shop for all things training.

9. Trainer Tools @JohnRTomlinson

Whilst not specifically a “blog”, John Tomlinson’s Trainer Tools is a hub full of fascinating podcasts. In each Trainer Tools podcast, John interviews an individual and asks them to share a particular tool, tip or other content that can be of practical use to the L&D community. A great hands on approach to what works in learning.

10. ATD’s Blog @ATD

And last but not least we love to get a good round up of the latest talent development news from the ATD. Whilst they produce a high volume of diverse content, you can filter the blog to the specific area you’re interested in, be that L&D, Learning Technologies or whatever else you’re keen to delve into.

That’s a round up of my top ten blogs in L&D to follow, but I am really just scratching the surface. There are so many other great blogs and thought leaders out there! To name a few… Michelle Ockers, Nigel Paine, Clive Shepherd, Ryan Tracey, Con Sotidis, Helen Blunden, Charles Jennings, and Donald Clark.. and I could go on. And finally, one to watch! Listed as one of Huffington Post’s ‘Top 50 Must-Follow Female Entrepreneur’s for 2017’, Sarah Cordiner caught my eye lately writing on AI in learning. All thought provoking and forward thinking individuals. How lucky we are to be part of a community that shares and communicates so frequently and authentically! Enjoy learning from them.
