Going Viral with Learning Transfer
I recently came across one of the most shared transfer of learning articles on the web. Perhaps not on the same level of Oscar selfie virality – but how fantastic that learning transfer is getting air time! It’s from CommLab who are an eLearning company based in India.
Titled How Can You Increase Learning Transfer? – An Infographic, they rightly suggest that promoting reflection, practice, collaboration, and motivation can effectively support learning transfer in organisations.
Interestingly though, the infographic seems to be pointing towards activities that happen during learning. See below:
I remain hugely concerned that the industry is still thinking about transfer of learning in terms of what needs to happen in the training room to increase the transfer. If we switch our focus on what’s happening when people “leave the room” then we would see a much higher increase in behavioural change back in the workplace.
I wholly support that facilitators are embracing these trends but let’s put our energies where we’re going to make a difference.
Consider this a call to arms for post learning action!
