Podcast – What Happened Next with Emma Weber

I was thrilled to be a returning guest on Michelle Ocker’s Learning Uncut podcast for the “What Happened Next” episode recently. Eighteen months ago, I was invited by Michelle with Marie Daniels to discuss our use of a coaching chatbot, affectionately known as Coach M, to support learning transfer. It is an absolute pleasure to be sharing our progress and where we’ve taken our experiment.

My three key takeaways were:

1. Humans above machines for SOME things! We have opted to use human learning rather than machine learning to ensure that we have the very best ethical standards from day one. At the beginning of our experiment, I wouldn’t have imagined AI could be used so successfully AND we still want to have humans in key parts of the process.

2. The importance of psychological safety as a driver with that shouldn’t be underestimated. AI can have a very high level of engagement with people (without the refinements that a human can give) driven by the psychological safety that it offers. If we had been discussing this a few years ago who would have imagined that people would feel safer speaking with a machine versus a person.

3. Together we are better – of course! Our plans are to integrate our human and artificial intelligence to create a better solution. The journey continues.

I would encourage people, whatever their experiment is, to really find time looking ahead for 2020 and just try and do one thing differently or have one thing to experiment with because as we have found, you will never know where it leads.

Thanks to the Learning Uncut team for inviting me back to be part of this podcast.
