How to Turn Training into Real Behaviour Change – Rogue L&D Podcast Episode

I recently had a great chat with Tom Bailey on the Rogue L&D Hotshots Podcast, and we dug into something I’m genuinely passionate about—learning transfer. As the CEO of Lever-Transfer Learning, I’ve spent years figuring out how to help people not just learn, but actually use what they’ve learnt—and this episode was a chance to share some of what I’ve picked up along the way.
We talked about why reflection matters so much. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of L&D work, but taking a step back—for ourselves and our learners—can make all the difference. We also got into the tricky gap between knowing something and doing it. Too often, training looks perfect in theory but falls flat in practice, and I shared some thoughts on why emotional connection might be the key to fixing that.
One highlight was talking about Coach M, an AI tool we’ve been working on. It’s designed to guide learners through action plans and reflection, and it’s been exciting to see how it’s helping people engage more deeply. I also opened up about some personal moments—like how much it means to hear from folks who’ve found my book, Turning Learning into Action (from 2014), helpful, and the real struggle of making learning work over video calls these days.
The big takeaway? Finding time to reflect isn’t just good advice—it’s essential for making L&D meaningful.
