THE CHALLENGE
The aged care sector is under a microscope at the moment and undergoing a period of intense transformation. There is increasing pressure to provide superior services in a consumer driven market. A leading aged care provider were addressing this period of transformation by initiating a Situational Leadership Program, which aimed to support participants in understanding, learning and practicing the three skills of situational leadership. Through improving leadership skills in the operational area they intended to increase occupancy and develop staff to an even higher level of performance. They wanted to ensure that learning was transferred back into behavioural change in the workplace and measure the ROI of their initiative.
THE APPROACH
Our client’s leaders took part in a 2-day Situational Leadership program. We took a multi-pronged approach to deliver Turning Learning into Action™ (TLA) sessions for the different levels of leaders. For the Regional Managers, there was a higher level of strategic importance to create change, so they completed a series of 1:1 TLA sessions alongside group “roundtable” sessions to support the implementation of individual, learning specific action plans. This group were measured for the return on investment of the initiative. For the other operational group, who were more tactically focused, they received group “roundtable” sessions only, to support them in implementing their learning.
For the Regional Managers we observed:
An average monthly occupancy increase of 10%
A 111% uplift in progress with individual objectives
An average TLA recommendation score of 8.4 out of 10
AND CREATED A RETURN ON INVESTMENT OF:
%
“Through the sessions [my TLA Coach] was able to clarify the challenges raised and guide me to recognise the solutions myself, therefore having input into the outcomes. [My TLA Coach] was fantastic and I thoroughly looked forward to the sessions as they were outcome focused and definitely beneficial.”
