The Top 5 Learning & Development Blogs This Month

 1. “What’s missing in Leadership Development?” – McKinsey Quarterly

McKinsey’s latest quarterly review considers the 4 key steps that are missing in leadership development. This of course made my list because – drum roll please – number 3 on the list to leadership development success is the transfer of learning! Cue celebratory dance. I talked more about their findings here, including how successful leadership development programs are three times as likely to provide coaching to support leaders in applying their learning.

2. BetaData: live trends from the 2017 Towards Maturity Benchmark Study – Towards Maturity

The 2017 Towards Maturity Benchmark Study has beaten several of their previous records, with over 660 learning professionals taking part and over 94% saying the process gave them new ideas for improving their strategy. This blog brings us “beta data than ever” (nice pun TM!).  The full results will be released in September, but for now you can check out this blog for more on such findings as how emerging tech is on the rise, yet 50% are saying that L&D lack the skills to implement online learning.

3. The Future of Online Learning Will Look a Lot Like Amazon Training Industry

I shared this article on social media recently and it created quite the discussion! This article looks at personalisation and considers how we can learn from Amazon and their superiority in personalisation to create a more effective learning experience. “One size fits all” need no longer apply. I’ve been a long time fan of personalisation through our scalable approach to learning transfer. Elliott Masie has been talking recently too about the importance of personalisation.

4. The Learning Trends & Challenges in 2017 – Elliott Masie

Talking of Elliott, this month he recently did a video cast sharing the latest trends in learning. OK, so this isn’t specifically a blog article but it’s too good to miss. I curated a summary on Elliott’s key points for those who don’t have time to watch the full 57 minute video. I have 5 key takeaways from Elliott’s video, ranging from curiosity to boost learning, to agile learning and what rituals mean for us. Read more here.

5. Learning & Development Events AU / NZ – The eLearning eXperts

Every month Karen Moloney from the eLearning eXperts shares the latest L&D events coming up. From various Twitter chats to workshops and conferences this blog was a great glimpse at what was happening this month. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for the September update – although you can get the full events calendar here.  The eLearning eXperts are a career development hub for learning professionals and I’m excited to see their new “Find an eXpert” tool coming soon – watch this space!
